Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of scheduled flights to Iran days after Iran launched an attack on Israel.

“Qatar Airways announces following airport and airspace reopening, that it has resumed its scheduled services to Iran, which include 20 weekly flights,” the carrier said in a statement on Monday.

The weekly flights fly to four destinations in Iran including Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Isfahan.

“The safety and security of our passengers remains our top priority,” the airline said.

This comes after 13 people were killed in an attack by Iran on the Israeli consulate in Damascus on Saturday. The attack came after the killing of an Iranian military commander in Damascus in a suspected Israeli strike last week, which also left six other Iranian nationals and at least six Syrians dead.

On Saturday night, Iran launched a wide-scale attack targeting Israel involving a barrage of missiles and drones which lasted around five hours, according to news reports. Explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem during the attack.

Airline operations across the region faced major disruptions, including Dubai-based carrier flydubai which revealed in a statement it was directly impacted by airspace closures.

Air India said on Monday it has halted flights between New Delhi and Tel Aviv, according to a report by The Economic Times. The carrier normally runs four flights each week between New Delhi and the Israeli capital city.
