The Oman Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) carried out inspections on school buses across various schools in the country, on Tuesday.
The inspections were carried out as part of a campaign under the slogan “An Integrated Safe and Sustainable School Transport System.”
During inspections, a number of violations were uncovered including non-compliance with technical specifications, lack of safety, failure to register on a specified platform (Naql) and more.
The inspection included checking for parameters such as cleanliness, first-aid kits and other safety and security requirements.
The ministry clarified that the checks will be carried out periodically throughout the school year to ensure safety of children.
On Tuesday, Arabian Business reported that the Royal Oman Police (ROP) denied rumours of a school bus carrying students that drifted into a valley. It was clarified that the bus had broken down prior to the valley flooding and that the students are safe and were transported home in another bus.
