Oman is trialling a unique link between air and sea ports in Salalah.

Salalah Airport has launched a test flight for the first cargo service linking the airport and the Port of Salalah.

The operation is deemed the first of its kind to connect sea shipments with air services in Oman.

The operation was conducted within the context of Oman Airports company’s initiatives with strategic partners to consolidate the Integrated Logistics System between ports and airports.

The service stems from a trend to unify efforts with all relevant departments tasked with linking the air cargo terminal at Salalah Airport with Salalah Port, as a step forward in finding another airport for goods in the country.

The new initiative optimises benefits from basic elements and infrastructure, including the vicinity of logistic services and Salalah Free Zone to the airport.

The shipment arrived this week at the Port of Salalah via Maersk Logistics, having hailed from the Colombo port in Sri Lanka.

The shipment was intended to be delivered at Salalah Airport to finalise shipping and clearance procedures and then planned to proceed to the specialised team of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) before being operated to its final destination.
