As many as 27 flights, including several international flights, were diverted by airport authorities in Mumbai in the early hours on Monday, July 8, as heavy rains pounded India’s commercial capital.
Operations on the runway were stopped between 2:22 AM and 3:40 AM, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA) said in a statement.
The airport said flights were diverted to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore, adding that priority is being given to arrivals, delaying departures, and consequential changes that were made to accommodate diverted flights.
The airport also asked passengers to check their flight status before proceeding to the airport.
“In light of the inclement weather and forecast of heavy to very heavy rains, #MumbaiAirport advises all the passengers to check their flight status with their respective airlines and leave for the airport a little earlier,” CSIA said in a post on X.

Several airlines also informed passengers that flights arriving and departing Mumbai have been impacted because of the heavy rains.
Many airlines are also reportedly offering an option to seek alternate flights or claim a full refund.
