Indian budget airline IndiGo announced codeshare connections to San Francisco via Istanbul.

The new service, which will commence from September 25, will be offered under its codeshare network in partnership with Turkish Airlines, the airline said in a media release.

With the launch of the San Francisco route, IndiGo’s codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines will expand to a total of 39 destinations, including five destinations in the US.

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo, said the new connection to California will significantly enhance travel options for passengers.

“This also marks our fifth destination in the US, after New York, Washington, Boston and Chicago,” he said.

IndiGo’s first entry into the Bay Area, famed for its natural beauty, cable cars, Victorian houses and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, will be a gateway to the thriving IT industry at Silicon Valley, which has a major concentration of Indian techie population.

The city is also home to major tech companies and startups, offering ample career prospects and networking opportunities for IT experts.

IndiGo said the new flight connection to San Francisco is being introduced to cater to business and leisure travellers seeking new and affordable flying options to access destinations that facilitate business development and offer tourist attractions.
