Have you got what it takes to work for Emirates?

Competition for cabin crew is fierce with 300,000 applicants since the airline launched its last recruitment drive

Emirates is about to embark on a recruitment drive, hiring candidates across 30 cities. But competition is fierce with 300,000 applicants since its launched its last hiring spree.

The global airline is currently seeking what it calls “talented people with a passion for service” to join its fast-growing cabin crew teams.

As air travel recovers from the pandemic slump, the airline’s recruiters are busy meeting and hiring candidates across major cities from now until the end of June.

In this latest drive, Emirates’ teams will travel from Australia to the UK, and a handful of European cities in between, as well as Cairo, Algiers, Tunis and Bahrain.

Emirates Group’s Executive Vice President for Human Resources Abdulaziz Al Ali said: “There’s no more exciting airline than Emirates for anyone interested in a flying career, and we’ve received tremendous interest since we began our recruitment drive for cabin crew in November.”

The airline’s cabin crew team represent 160 nationalities, reflecting its customer mix and international operations in more than 130 cities on six continents.

According to its financial results, Emirates hired around 6,000 skilled people in the last financial year, and continues to recruit crew and other operational roles to ensure it has the right reinforcements as it ramp up operations.

“Since we announced our recruitment drive last year, we’ve received 300,000 applications for cabin crew roles alone, demonstrating the tremendous level of interest in this role and in Dubai’s growing reputation as a one of the best cities to live and work” an Emirates spokesman told Arabian Business.

As Emirates, and its airport services provider dnata, ramped up operations, employees previously on furlough or made redundant were recalled and rehired. New recruitment drives were held to replenish the group’s talent pool and boost its future capabilities.

As a result, the group’s total workforce increased by 13 percent to 85,219 employees.

What exactly is the airline looking for? “A personality that shines, the ability to adapt to any situation and make people feel at ease. These are a few of the qualities we’re looking for in our cabin crew,” Emirates said.  But it stressed that safety is the airline’s highest priority.

New hires will need to be fluent in written and spoken English, while the ability to speak another language is an advantage. Candidates need to be at least 160cm tall and can reach 212cm while standing on tiptoes.

No visible tattoos are allowed while you’re in Emirates cabin crew uniform, unless they can be covered up with bandages or cosmetics.
