US-based automotive manufacturing company General Motors, has recalled over 6,000 SUVs due to a possible third-row seat belt issue.

According to local reports, General Motors said the rivets that hold the buckle to the mounting bracket on the left and right side third-row seats may have been faulty, adding the improper belts may not restrain passengers during an accident.

The company said it would inspect the rivets and replace the buckles, if required.

SUV models of Cadillac’s Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet‘s Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC’s Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles of 2021 and 2022 were among those that were recalled.

The inspection will be done in the UAE, free of cost and customers have been advised to refrain from using the third-row seating.

“Our dealer partners are in the process of outreaching to customers who own a vehicle that may be affected, to arrange a thorough vehicle inspection and replace the seatbelt buckle as required when parts are available, at no additional cost to the customer,” General Motors Africa and Middle East’s communications director Sean Poppitt said.

UAE car dealers will begin contacting the affected customers for vehicle inspection.

“Concurrently, dealers are inspecting their inventory to ensure all vehicles are operating as expected before leaving the showroom,” Poppitt said.
