Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai has reported a record summer season, with over 4 million passengers transported between June and mid-September 2023.

This marks a 30 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022.

During this busy season, flydubai operated an extensive network of more than 32,000 flights, connecting travellers to 120 destinations across 52 countries.

Corfu in Greece and Olbia in Sardinia were the latest additions to the airline’s seasonal summer routes, providing passengers with even more options to access popular holiday destinations.

flydubai CEO celebrates summer success

“We continue to create free trade and tourism flows by offering the right product at the right time, making travel accessible to new and previously underserved markets. By doing so, we have enabled more than four million passengers to travel this summer via Dubai’s aviation hub,” Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith said.

Al Ghaith also noted significant year-on-year growth in demand for seasonal destinations. There was a remarkable 70 percent increase in passenger numbers to Trabzon and over 40 percent to Bodrum this summer.

However, Al Ghaith acknowledged that even higher figures might have been achieved if the aircraft had been delivered on schedule, allowing for more capacity on these popular routes.

Currently operating a fleet of 78 Boeing 737s, flydubai faces potential delays in scheduled aircraft deliveries this year, the airline statement said.

To address this, the carrier has signed an agreement to lease four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft from October 17, 2023, to April 16, 2024.

This move will provide additional capacity across the airline’s network during upcoming busy travel periods.

In addition to its summer successes, flydubai has announced plans to expand its operations to three new destinations.

Daily service to Cairo will commence on October 28, followed by Poznan, its third destination in Poland, on October 29. Mombasa is also scheduled to join the airline’s growing network from January 17, 2024.

For those interested in flydubai’s full flight timetable, it can be accessed via the website.

Tickets can be booked via the official website, the flydubai App, the Dubai Contact Centre, flydubai travel shops, or through their network of travel partners.
