Wearing face masks is no longer mandatory in major airports in Dubai, a regulator said, following the UAE government’s major reforms in its Covid-19 safety protocol.
Passengers at the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) do not have to wear face coverings anymore, Dubai Airports has confirmed in an emailed statement.
The move is also in line with major carriers including Emirates, which operates from DXB, dropping the mandatory face mask rule on board aircrafts.
But just like in earlier announcements, Dubai Airports said airlines could still request passengers to wear the face mask on board based on “the specific requirements or the rules applicable at intermediate or final destinations.”
“The well-being of all our customers and staff is our topmost priority and Dubai Airports works closely with regulatory authorities, airlines and service partners to ensure a safe and healthy airport environment,” the regulator added.
The UAE announced Monday that it would remove its mask wearing rules, according to the country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).
The new rules come into effect from Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Face mask rules had been in effect for over two and half years.
Masks will still be required in medical facilities and hospitals, mosques, places of worship, and public transport, NCEMA said in a tweet.
