Emirates will be offering 14 first class suites, 76 flatbed seats in business class and 426 seats in economy class as the Dubai-based airline plans to convert its daily flight to Narita International Airport to its flagship A380 from November 15.
The Dubai-based airline, which was the first to establish air connectivity between Japan and the Arabian Gulf countries with its Narita service back in 2002, is experiencing a severe surge in demand to the Land of the Rising Sun, which has led to the upgrading of capacity on the route.
Japan has scrapped the daily arrival cap and lifted the Covid-19 testing and self-quarantine protocols for in-bound travel. Following the Japanese government’s announcement last month to ease the entry restrictions, Emirates has seen a spike in bookings for flights to both Narita and Osaka, its two gateways in the country.
EK318 will depart from Dubai daily at 0240 UAE time and arrive in Narita at 1735. The return flight – EK319 –will depart Narita at 2230 Japan time and arrive in Dubai at 0450 the following day.
The route is currently being served by a Boeing 777-300ER, which has a maximum capacity of 396 passengers. The A380 will be able to carry at least 120 passengers more in each trip.
The reintroduction of the A380 to Narita underscores Emirates’ long-standing commitment to Japan. By providing more capacity, the airline aims to serve the pent-up demand for travel into the country along with providing choice and flexibility for travellers through its daily service to Osaka (EK316/317), which uses a Boeing 777 Game Changer.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Emirates continued to contribute to the local community in Japan by transporting essential air cargo between the country and other global markets.
Leisure travellers from over 60 countries can now travel to Japan visa-free. However, travellers must still check the entry requirements.
