Dubai International Airport (DXB) has maintained its position as the top-ranked airport in the Middle East and Africa, according to recent rankings by Megahubs: Most Connected Airports in the World.
The UAE hub also secured the seventh spot in the Top 25 Low-Cost Megahubs globally, making it the highest-ranked airport outside Asia in this category.
DXB offered 279 destinations between September 2023 and August 2024, the highest number in the table. However, not all of these routes were operated by low-cost carriers.
Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) followed DXB in the regional rankings, with Johannesburg (JNB), Riyadh (RUH), and Addis Ababa (ADD) rounding out the top five for the Middle East and Africa.
The data revealed that dominant carriers account for a significant portion of flights at these airports. On average, the leading airline at each hub operates 52 percent of flights across the top 10 airports in the region.
Emirates Airline emerged as the dominant carrier at DXB, operating 38 percent of flights. In contrast, Ethiopian Airlines showed the highest dominance at its hub, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD), with a 96 percent share of flights.
