Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has completed one kilometre of road widening work on two sections of Al Khail Road. The dual projects aimed to improve traffic flow in the area.

The first location saw Al Khail Road widened by over 600 metres at Al Jaddaf. An additional lane was added, extending the road to six lanes total, RTA said in a statement.

“Al Khail Road is a vital traffic corridor in Dubai, witnessing a surge in vehicle movement. RTA was keen to add a new lane at Al Jaddaf, increasing the number of lanes to six and boosting the road’s capacity by about 2,000 vehicles per hour, which has reduced congestion by 25 percent,” Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said.

A 435-metre stretch of road was also widened at the entrance to Business Bay. The extension of an extra lane will enhance traffic flow into the Business Bay area from Al Khail Road.

Further improvements to several locations along Al Khail Road are planned as part of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project, Al Shehhi said, adding that this scheme is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2024.
