Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has announced the use of artificial intelligence technology to closely track the performance of its extensive fleet, consisting of 14,500 drivers and 7,200 vehicles.

DTC, a subsidiary of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), employs this technology at its control centre to oversee a wide range of transport services, including taxis, limousines, school buses, public buses, and motorcycles.

“The centre assists senior management in making swift and efficient decisions, in addition to providing a key schedule for events organised in Dubai to distribute on-demand taxi fleet and redirecting vacant vehicles to high-demand areas,” Ammar Al Braiki, the director of fleet operations at DTC said.

The AI system not only monitors the routes taken by these vehicles but also scrutinizes the behaviour of the drivers.

The scope of monitoring extends to various vehicle types, including 1,000 school buses, 600 delivery motorcycles, and 400 limousines to ensure the safety and punctuality of school bus trips.

DTC’s control centre also plays a vital role in supporting drivers, addressing their needs, and measuring the efficiency of daily vehicle movements.

It is a comprehensive tool that streamlines operations and ensures the optimal use of the fleet.

This development comes in the wake of Dubai’s introduction of a state-of-the-art high-tech bus, equipped with an array of intelligent features, such as surveillance cameras and systems to safeguard the well-being of students.

The buses are also equipped with both GPS tracking and an automatic fire suppression system. In cases of emergency, an alert system connects directly to the control centre.

Moreover, Abu Dhabi has followed suit, equipping school buses with special cameras to identify motorists who fail to stop when indicated by the vehicle’s retractable stop sign, used during pupil disembarkation. Those who do not comply face a fine of AED1,000 and 10 black points.
