A Dubai-bound flight by Indian budget carrier SpiceJet, carrying passengers from Delhi, had to make an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan, on Tuesday after it developed a technical fault.
SpiceJet said all passengers on board were safe.
The flight was diverted to Karachi due to fuel indicator malfunction, Indian wire service ANI reported, quoting country’s civil aviation authority officials.
According to a SpiceJet official, the B737 aircraft operating flight SG-11 on the Delhi-Dubai route, was diverted to Karachi due to an indicator light malfunctioning.
The official said the aircraft landed safely in Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked.
“No emergency was declared and aircraft made a normal landing. There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft. Passengers have been served refreshments. A replacement aircraft is being sent to Karachi that will take the passengers to Dubai,” the airline official said.
“The plane landed in Karachi at 0803 am (local time), 53 minutes after being airborne. It has been on-ground for the past four hours. Passengers are being looked after. The plane has been parked in the designated area where engineers are assessing the problem,” ANI said, quoting an official of Pakistan’s civil aviation authority (CAA).
This is the sixth such incident involving SpiceJet aircraft in the last 17 days, the five taking place in its India operations.
