Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Salik Company PJSC announced the activation of two toll gates.

The new toll gates will be located at Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, and will be operational from November 24, 2024.

The activation follows the completion of the Al Khail Road Development Project, which included the construction of five bridges spanning 3,300 metres and the expansion of 6,820 metres of road lanes across seven locations.

Salik eases traffic flow

The Business Bay Crossing gate will reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by 15 per cent and cut traffic volume on Al Rebat Street by 16 per cent, the RTA said, adding that the total travel time on the congested section between Al Rebat and Ras Al Khor Streets will decrease by 20,000 hours daily in both directions.

The Al Safa South gate, positioned between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets, will implement a one-time toll fee for journeys between the North and South Al Safa toll gates within an hour.

According to RTA data, the new gate will reduce right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street by 15 per cent and decrease traffic flow from Al Meydan and Al Safa Streets to Sheikh Zayed Road by 42 per cent.

The existing toll gates in Dubai have reduced total travel time by 6 million hours annually and decreased traffic on Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges by 26 per cent. Public transport ridership has increased by 9 million passengers per year.

The Al Khail Road Development Project, serving 1.5 million people, has reduced travel time by 30 per cent and increased the capacity of intersections and bridges by 19,600 vehicles per hour.
