Careem taxi drivers can now cancel trips

Customers will be charged if the rider does not begin the ride after 10 minutes

In a new update, Careem captains can now cancel a trip after 10 minutes, if the customer does not arrive on time.

“As part of our efforts to ensure that ride-hailing trips are reliable and fair for captains, we’ve made some changes to the release times for captains in the UAE. The release time is the time after which a captain can cancel a trip when there is a no-show, and the length of time is dependent on the location,” a Careem spokesperson told Arabian Business.

The spokes person added: “For airport pick-ups, captains can cancel after waiting for 30 mins, while for most other bookings, captains will be able to cancel after 10 minutes. We regularly review our release time policies to ensure that they make sense for both our customers and our captains.”

Customers will be charged if the rider does not begin the ride after 10 minutes. Riders are usually charged AED12 for cancelling five minutes after the trip has been booked.

Cancelling charges also apply when a customer cancels a trip after the Careem captain has arrived, along with waiting charges.
