Air Arabia has marked the resumption of services between the Iraqi city of Basra and Sharjah in the UAE.
The airline will operate four weekly return flights between Basra International Airport and Sharjah International Airport, using the Airbus A321 aircraft.
The service launched on June 7, 2024, with flights available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Upon arriving in Basra, the first Air Arabia flight from Sharjah was greeted with a water cannon salute alongside airport representatives.
“Air Arabia’s new flights to Basra mark a significant milestone in our commitment to providing affordable travel options within the region,” Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia said.
“The new service offer our customers the opportunity to connect directly between both cities and benefit from our value-driven product and services while further contributing to strong travel and trade ties between both countries,” he added.
Air Arabia operates a modern fleet of 72 Airbus narrow-bodies, offering passengers free in-flight entertainment and onboard catering at competitive prices.
The airline’s loyalty program ‘Air Rewards’ enables members to earn and redeem points on flights.
Customers are able to book flights on the Basra-Sharjah route through Air Arabia’s website and contact centres, or travel agencies.
The resumption adds Basra as the fourth Iraqi destination from Sharjah, following Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil.
