Emirates airline has not been affected by the protests in Hong Kong today (Monday).
Over 200 flights at the city’s airport, which is one of the busiest in the world, were cancelled on Monday morning amid potential disruption from city-wide protests.
But an Emirates spokesperson told Arabian Business: “Despite the protests in Hong Kong on 5th August, Emirates’ flights to and from Hong Kong Airport are operating as per their normal schedules. Passengers are advised however to regularly check for the latest flight schedules and to allow for extra time to complete airport formalities.
“We will continue to monitor the closely and will update our customers of any developments or effect on flights.”
Etihad Airways was approached for comment but did not respond.
It is understood the affected airlines were predominantly Hong Kong Airlines and Cathay Pacific, most of which involved the latter, according to reports.
Cathay Pacific urged customers not to fly Monday and Tuesday, and said it would waive fees for rebooking. Shares in Cathay plunged more than 4 percent during trading Monday.
A posting on the Cathay Pacific flight attendants’ union Facebook page confirmed its members had taken strike action.
“Over the last 50 days, the government has been ignoring the demands of the people and using only police force to try to suppress voices, causing countless Hong Kong people to despair,” it said.
