Saudi Arabian Airlines records 7% year on year growth in international passengers in June

Saudi Arabian Airlines transported 17 million passengers on 107,500 flights during the first six months of 2019.

There were 8.3m passengers on 63,000 domestic trips and 8.71m on 44,500 international flights.

Last month alone the national carrier’s international flights grew seven percent compared to June 2018, with more than one and a half million passengers – a daily average of more than 50,000 people. In total, in June, there were three million passengers flown on 18,600 domestic and international flights.

The national carrier is planning to increase its operations, with proposals to bring the overall number of aircraft to 200 by the end of 2020.

The company has already received more than 80 new planes over the past three years, as part of a strategy to expand the network of domestic and international flights.

Earlier this month Saudia announced that it had added 17 aircraft to its 165-aircraft fleet to help transport 1.2 million domestic and foreign pilgrims from approximately 100 destinations for Hajj season. According to the airline, the number of pilgrims it expects to transport this year has risen by about 10 percent compared to 2018.
