Careem, the Dubai-based ride hailing app, has announced the signing of a partnership agreement with General Motors Africa and Middle East (GM) intended to support car ownership for its captains across the Gulf and Levant.

According to the agreement, Careem Captains will get discounted rates on any of GM vehicles including Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac models and an extended warranty. Careem captains can fully own their car after 3 years.

The agreement is part of Careem Fleet Solutions, a division set up to support Careem captains become self-employed vehicle owners.

The signing was held in the attendance of Bassel Al Nahlaoui, managing director of Careem Gulf and Luay Al Shurafa, managing director of Commercial Operations, General Motors Africa and Middle East.

Al Nahlaoui said: “We are happy to finalise this agreement with General Motors which we believe will greatly benefit our Captains. We at Careem care deeply about the well-being and happiness of our captains, and always endeavor to find ways to support them both in and out of the workplace.”

He added: “Careem Captains can now own a brand-new car from GM and drive with comfort and safety as they work towards meeting the customers’ demands. We would like to thank GM for this partnership and their support to date, and we are looking forward to more collaboration in the future.”

Al Shurafa said: “Today, more than ever, transportation is changing. From car-hailing to alternative propulsion, mobility trends will continue to evolve especially in a region as young and dynamic as the Middle East. Through our partnership, we know we can add value to this evolution by providing a premium and fuel-efficient vehicle line-up that will bring Careem Captains, and their passengers, safely to their destinations.”

Careem was founded in 2012 and is currently operating in over 120 cities in 15 countries across the wider Middle East region.
