UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi is set for space travel to the International Space Station (ISS) from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on February 26.
The Crew-6 mission, which includes Al Neyadi, NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren Hoburg will also see Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.
The team will take off for space from the Falcon 9 rocket and the Dragon Endeavour spacecraft.
This is the UAE’s second ISS mission after Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri spent eight days at ISS in 2019.
Al Neyadi’s six-month long mission will include research and scientific experiments. It will also be his first trip to space as a representative of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), NASA said, adding that Al Neyadi will become a flight engineer for Expedition 69, once aboard the station.
The Crew-6 mission launch, which was initially scheduled for February 19, was changed to a later date in order to allow Russia to carry out a rescue mission to bring three stranded astronauts currently on the space station back home.
