Twitter will roll out an “official” label for select verified accounts, when it debuts its new $8 Twitter Blue service, the social media platform’s early stage products executive Esther Crawford, said on Tuesday.
The label will be added to accounts of governments, companies, media outlets and public figures and is not for sale.
“A lot of folks have asked about how you’ll be able to distinguish between @TwitterBlue subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official, which is why we’re introducing the “Official” label to select accounts when we launch,” Crawford said in a tweet.
She added: “Accounts that will receive [the label] include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures.”
Crawford further explained that the new Twitter Blue, allows paid users to have their accounts verified with a blue tick, without providing user identities with identification cards or other materials.
The new move comes after Tesla, SpaceX chief executive took over the social media platform.
American technology website The Verge reported that Musk was privately discussing plans to put the platform behind a paywall.
