In typical Donald Trump style, the former US President decided not to return to Twitter after his account was reinstated by new owner Elon Musk.
Saying that Truth Social, his own new platform developed by Trump Media & Technology Group, was doing “phenomenally well” and had better user engagement than Twitter, Trump told a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting via video: “I don’t see any reason for it.”
Musk conducted a Twitter poll on whether Trump should be reinstated. Following a slim majority vote in favour of Trump (51.8 percent voting in favour among slightly over 15 million votes polled), Musk had tweeted: “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.”
Trump’s account was suspended in 2021 violating Twitter guidelines and the risk “further incitement of violence” following the January 6 Capitol riot. It had over 88 million followers before he was banned on January 8.
Musk, the world’s richest man who is also CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, purchased Twitter in October for $44 billion, and was literally forced to buy the company after walking away from the deal.
After taking control in the last week of October, Musk has made series of radical changes, including firing the top brass of the company and nearly 50 percent of its 7,500 staff.
Earlier last week, there were reports that nearly 1,200 of the remaining staff also quit after Musk called on them to sign up for “long hours at high intensity” or leave.
