The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) technologies that connect countries virtually is set to transform the “hybrid future” of megaevents, reports the World Government Summit Organisation (WGS).
Cities hosting megaevents will have crowd-tracking sensors to collect real-time data, mixed reality and metaverse as part of an industry contributing $1 trillion to the global economy, reports WGS.
According to the report in partnership with PwC, “the use of technology will be a key tool to launch megaevents with the best combination of capability, impact and safety for cities and host countries with optimal social, economic and sustainability outcomes for years to come.”
Countries continue to “rethink how to deal with these events in the future because the frequency of future shocks is expected to increase”, added WGS.
This comes after the World Government Summit 2022 was hosted at Expo 2020 that brought together government leaders and decision-makers around the world to exchange experiences, knowledge and ideas for pushing economic development and prosperity and had “strengthened its global status as a platform for government knowledge.”
This means using “much-needed” smart solutions such as video analytics, AI, and Internet of Things sensors to predict and track crowd density.
Additionally, technologies for public health will be deployed to collect real-time data of public health information with automated and rapid reporting of live COVID-19 cases and test results to government databases.
The metaverse will strengthen relationships, empower people and help tackle global crisis. As the world economy recovers from pandemic lockdowns, megaevents that convene countries and people at the intersection of technology for entertainment, education and commerce will transform the world.
Dubai was the host city of Expo 2020, the six-month long megaevent where nearly 14.7 million virtual visits were recorded.
