Major space conference to be held in Abu Dhabi

The conference intends to bring together leading engineers, policy makers and scientists, in December.

Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Space Debate

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed announced the Abu Dhabi Space Debate conference via a tweet on Wednesday, he said that “The UAE is proud to be hosting the Abu Dhabi Space Debate in December. The event is a platform to facilitate dialogue and aims to strengthen cooperation, formulate new international policies and develop solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in the global space sector.”

Last year, the world’s largest space conference, International Aeronautical Congress, was held in Dubai following a bid won by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre. The conference attracted various space industry experts to the Dubai World Trade Centre, where the conference was held.

The country has been accelerating in the space sector after the formation of the space agency and Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). One of their biggest initiatives in line with Mars 2117 Strategy is to build the Mars Science City, which seeks to build the first settlement in Marks over the next 100 years, announced in 2017.

The Mars Science City encompasses laboratories for food, energy and water, as well as agricultural testing and studies about food security in the future. A range of experiments will be devised to lead innovation around self-sufficiency in energy, water and food.

Mars Science City will also boast a museum that displays humanity’s greatest space achievements, including educational areas meant to engage young citizens with space and inspire a passion in them for exploration and discovery. The walls of the museum will be 3D printed, using sand from the UAE’s deserts.
