The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said on Thursday India took a walk on the Moon moments after its rover Chandrayaan-3 touched the surface of the south pole of the Moon on Wednesday evening.
“Pragyan rover has rolled out from ‘Vikram’ lander,” ISRO said in a tweet on Thursday morning.
“Chandrayaan-3 ROVER: Made in India, Made for the MOON! The Ch-3 Rover ramped down from the Lander and India took a walk on the moon! More updates soon,” posted ISRO on X, formerly Twitter.
The first picture of the six-wheeled robotic vehicle Pragyan rolling out of Vikram has been shared by Pawan K Goenka, the chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, a single-window, independent, nodal agency that functions as an autonomous agency in the Department of Space (DOS).
The development comes hours after the ‘Vikram’ lander of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar exploration mission, made a successful soft landing on the south pole of the Moon, creating history.
