Du, the UAE’s second telecom service provider has warned customers that its BlackBerry service could face disruptions on Saturday due to planned maintenance.
A statement issued by the telco, which more than doubled its profit after royalties during the fourth quarter of 2012, said the customers could face problems in registering their devices and creating new accounts on Saturday morning.
“We would like to proactively make our customers aware that, as part of a RIM’s regular service maintenance schedule, BlackBerry services will be impacted for a maximum of 45 minutes on Saturday, 16 March between 6am-10am,” the statement said.
“During this time, customers may experience difficulty in registering their devices, creating new accounts and using BlackBerry subscriber websites,” the statement added.
Last month, du more than doubled its profit after royalties during the fourth quarter to $270m, compared to the same period in 2011.
The figure topped off a record year for annual revenues and profit, with du recording a net profit after royalties of $540m, up from $300m in 2011.
The telco also said it attracted more than 1.2m new customers in 2012, including nearly 500,000 in the fourth quarter, taking its market share to an estimated 48.7 percent, up from about 47 percent.
The company competes with larger rival Etisalat in the UAE’s fixed line, internet and mobile telecommunications markets.
