Apple released iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 on Wednesday, incorporating enhanced Apple Intelligence features and, for the first time, integrating ChatGPT into Writing Tools and Siri.
ChatGPT on its latest iPhones, iPads and Macs is a much anticipated and awaited feature by Apple users as well as investors, with several experts contending that it will drive Apple’s sales higher.
Wednesday also marks the beginning of Apple Intelligence language expansion with localised English support for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. Until now, it has only been available in US English. Additional languages, including Chinese, English (India), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese will be coming throughout the year.
Users can explore creative new ways to express themselves visually with Image Playground, create the perfect emoji for any situation with Genmoji, and make their writing even more dynamic with new enhancements to Writing Tools.
Apple is enabling ChatGPT access in Siri and Writing Tools experiences, allowing users to access its expertise, as well as its image- and document-understanding capabilities. Users do not need to jump between applications as Siri can suggest ChatGPT access for certain requests, and can also provide the response directly.
With Compose, users can ask ChatGPT to generate content for anything they are writing about from the systemwide Writing Tools. They can also use ChatGPT’s image-generation capabilities to add images alongside their written content.
Users will not require a full ChatGPT account for integration. If a user chooses to use ChatGPT without an account, OpenAI will not store requests, and will not use the data for model training.
The AI features will be available on the latest iPhone series, as well as the Pro and Pro Max versions of the previous iPhone 15 line-up. Users of iPad with A17 Pro or M1 chips and later, and Mac with M1 chips and later can also access the tools.
The Image Playground will allow users to easily create fun and unique images. They can add their own text descriptions, and can even create images in the likeness of a family member or friend using photos from their photo library. Image can be generated in Animation, a modern, 3D-animated look, and Illustration, which uses simple shapes, clear lines, and color blocking.
Genmoji will take emoji creation in iPhones and iPads a new level. By simply typing a description into the emoji keyboard, a Genmoji will appear, including multiple options to choose from. With images from their photo library, Genmoji can also be inspired by a friend or family member.
