Dubai-based telecoms operator Du is to invest up to AED1.5 billion this year to support 5G connectivity in the UAE.
According to a report in The National the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks require greater infrastructure and increased investment in data centres.
At the moment there are 10 data centres in the UAE, with three more planned to open in the next two years. Du also has 120 5G towers across the country, with plans to add another 580 before the end of the year.
The report said the telecommunications giant is expected to receive the first shipment of Huawei handsets by the end of this month and Samsung’s first 5G products by mid-July.
