Hover bikes, robocops, fully automated police stations – these are not just gadgets from sci-fi movies, but Dubai Police’s cool new toys that they are using to reduce crime and ensure safer environments for the citizens and residents of the UAE.
Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, General Director of Artificial Intelligence of Dubai Police, revealed Dubai’s strategy for 2021 where AI is going to play a crucial role.
“We want to create AI in every aspect. We are introducing smart police stations where there’s going to be zero police officers sitting there,” he said in a video interview earlier this month at the Emirates Festival of Literature in Dubai.
“This is a complete autonomous system where people are going to interact with robots to report cases and pay fines.
“We also want to predict the crimes in the future. We want to know the exact location and time, and also study the behaviour of drivers,” he revealed.
Dubai Police has already incorporated additional CCTVs and facial recognition tools in order to capture all the “wanted” people.
Brigadier Alrazooqi also talked about the increasing rates of cybercrime in the UAE as more and more people are becoming active users of social media.
“The number has been increasing year by year,” he said.
Although most of these crimes have been through social media accounts, Dubai Police has also received a lot of cases of phone fraud and scams where callers try to extract secure information, such as bank details, from people.
Dubai Police recently tied up with Kerala Cyberdome and have agreed to share the information about those who are engaged in criminal activities on social media.
Brigadier Khalid was at the Emirates Airline Lit Festival last week, shedding light on the AI initiatives being implemented in the UAE by Dubai Police.
