Plans launched to open Oman’s largest commercial data centre

Data centre hosting services company Datamount says the facility is expected to go live by Q4 2020

Data centre hosting services company Datamount has launched Oman’s largest commercial data centre in Jebel Akhdar, the company has announced.

The 9,000 sq m facility will accommodate approximately 1,000 racks, making it the largest such facility in the sultanate.

The data centre was designed by technology partners NxtGen Data Center & Cloud Technologies.

“Corporates require to focus on their core businesses. The need for cloud services, ICT outsourcing, disaster recovery and other secure ICT-related services has been growing rapidly within the country, due to increasing digital transformation of transactions and customer services,” said Dr Tahir Al Kindi, the company’s chairman.

Datamount has also signed a partnership with Awasr as a strategic telecom provider and with Avaya to provide cloud communications sevices.

Datamount is expected to go live with a 20-rack mini data centre in Q2 2019. The full facility will be completed and will go live by Q4 2020.
