The Dubai Future Accelerators programme has received 600 applications from companies based in 74 different countries around the world as it closed registration for its latest round.
The programme by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) will see the applicants undergo a rigorous evaluation and selection process, following which the chosen companies will take part in the programme to tackle challenges launched by government entities.
They will be asked to come up with innovative and smart solutions through the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain.
The Dubai Future Accelerators programme was launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and chairman of the board of trustees of DFF, in 2016.
The programme consists of nine weeks of joint work between the government entities and global companies, with specialised workshops and mentorship events included.
“The Dubai Future Accelerators programme has achieved remarkable levels of success in finding effective solutions to challenges facing Dubai’s government entities and its strategic sectors, in collaboration with start-ups and innovative global companies. This supports the process of building the future, in Dubai and the UAE,” said Saeed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Future Platforms at DFF.
Through its participation, the Department of Economic Development in Dubai aims to help retailers explore future trends through studies, data collection and research, while the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai aims to find solutions to full digitise the process of issuing residence visas.
Smart Dubai, on its part, hopes to promote the concept of decentralised data exchange, while Emirates airline wants to enhance customer experience in various stages of travel, through technology.
The programme’s 5th cohort is expected to start in mid-September and will feature 12 government entities including the Department of Economic Development, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, Smart Dubai, Dubai Municipality, Emirates Airlines, Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Etisalat Digital and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (Du).
