The CEO of Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) has signed an agreement for the design of ICT infrastructure and smart services for the $1.5 billion Jeddah Tower and Jeddah Economic City (JEC) Project.Talal Almaiman signed the deal on behalf of the JEC partners with Orange Business Services of France, a statement said.
Almaiman said: “We are confident that upon completion, Jeddah Tower will become one of the world’s great tourist attractions as well as one of the most attractive places to live and work in the region, but most important this project will create thousands of jobs spurring the local economy and we will spare no effort in using the top digital technologies for smarter living and working environment.”
Mounib Hammoud, CEO of Jeddah Economic City, added: “The project aims to offer an advanced quality of life in a mixed use environment; with residential apartments of different types, offices, retail leisure and entertainment, hotels and tourism attractions public and cultural amenities.”
Orange Business Services is working on a number of major smart city projects in Saudi Arabia including the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD).
Last month, it was reported that construction of the world’s tallest skyscraper in Jeddah is going ahead despite the detention of some businessmen backing the plan in Saudi Arabia’s crackdown on corruption.
“We will be open for business by 2020, hopefully,” said Hammoud in an interview in February.
