The Aviation and Space Systems Sector, an affiliate of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) company, signed an agreement with Airbus Helicopter Arabia, Airbus Global’s arm in the Middle East and North Africa, aiming to assist its partners build their technical abilities in the field of helicopters.
Waleed bin Abdulmajeed Abukhalid, chief executive officer SAMI Eng., said the tie-up with Airbus would significantly contribute to support the Group’s endeavors in the field of technology and localisation of human capital through intensive training, SPA reported.
The chief executive officer of Airbus Helicopter Arabia, Michael Pertrand said his company was committed to transfer the helicopter technology to the Saudi defense system.
SAMI has also signed a number of agreements with the Singapore-based ST Engineering in the fields of technology, defense and engineering.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of Farnborough International Airshow, currently being held in the UK.
Abdulmajeed Abukhalid said the agreements would provide the opportunity to make use of the abilities of supply chains of the Singaporean company as Saudi Arabia is gearing to achieve self-sufficiency in the sector of defense as per the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Vinecent Chong, chief executive officer of ST Engineering, said the cooperation with SAMI would provide effective and high-level defense solutions as per the Saudi requirements.
He said the first step of this cooperation took place in 2019.
SAMI, a conglomerate in defense industries, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Saudi Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
