A dry version of the Dubai Japanese restaurant and bar concept, Okku, is set to open in Jeddah in the Al Furusiya complex part of the Park Hyatt later this year, according to Okku co-founder Markus Thesleff.

‘O’ by Okku is a tweaked version of the luxury Japanese F&B outlet, adapted to suit the alcohol-free environment of Saudi Arabia, Hotelier Middle East reported on Monday.

The Saudi venture forms part of Okku’s expansion plans internationally, which will also see an opening in central London this year.

Okku is a Dubai-grown concept by the team behind international private members’ club brands Pangaea, AvivA and Maya.

In February, Okku was named among the five most popular eateries in Dubai by internet startup Yadig.com, which provides real-time feedback on restaurants and entertainment.

Also topping the list of restaurants were Zuma, Bice, Buddha Bar and More Cafe.

Last year, Thesleff said about $10 million had been spent in opening the restaurant.
