The annual three-day anniversary sale by Dubai Duty Free resulted in sales of over AED87 million, nearly 25 percent higher than last year, the airport retailer said on Tuesday.
Dubai Duty Free marked its 38th anniversary by offering passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) with a 25 percent discount on a wide range of merchandise from December 18-20.
Sales totalled AED87.2 million ($23.9 million) which was 24.5 percent higher than the same period last year.
From a category point of view, perfumes was the highest selling category with sales of AED23 million, followed by liquor (AED10.9 million) and watches (AED9.9 million.
Ticket sales for Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise combined reached AED8.6 million, making it the fourth most popular category for the first time while cosmetics took fifth spot with sales of AED5.7 million.
Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free said: “We are very happy to see such a great result during our annual anniversary sale, both in store and online.”
Over the three-day period, a total of 165,924 sales transactions were recorded in store.
Meanwhile, online sales during the same period topped AED8.7 million with a total of 7,134 combined orders received through Click & Collect and Home Delivery service.
The Dubai Duty Free anniversary offer was first introduced when the airport retailer marked its 20th anniversary in 2003.
