Union Coop, the largest consumer cooperative in the UAE, has launched a new retail concept, offering chemical-free vegetables from Union Farm.

The Dubai-based retailer said Union Farm aims to produce 16 varieties of organic vegetables with a production capacity of 15-20kg per day in near future.

Union Farm has been launched at Al Warqa City Mall, the latest addition to the list of malls owned and operated by the Union Coop and aims to promote the concept of a healthy lifestyle to customers.

Yaqoob Al Balooshi, fresh category trade department manager, Union Coop, said: “Union Farm produces 100 percent fresh and healthy vegetables that are free from hormones or any other chemical products, a project which is considered to be among the first of its kind in the Middle East.”

He added that the company aims to develop the Union Farm concept, with similar projects planned at other branches in the future.”

Under the new concept, customers will be able to see the produce at different stages until it is picked and displayed on Union Coop’s shelves.

Last year, Arabian Business reported that Union Coop plans to expand its retail operations with six new branches in the next two years, with a view to opening more across the emirate in the future, pending discussions with the local authority.

Khalid Humaid Bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of Union Coop, said 17 new locations to expand operations in Dubai were under consideration.
