Dubai is home to the busiest airport in the globe and has accommodated a total of over 88 million passengers in 2017, according to Dubai International airport.

This means that in the past year alone, more than 250,000 people travelled in or out of the country per month. One of the main concerns of people when it comes to travelling is not only the long queues but also the luggage they carry.

With limited baggage allowances and the recent baggage regulations announced by Dubai Airports this year, more and more people fear having their luggage rejected.

Following the recent trends worldwide, suitcase manufacturers are looking for smarter ways to fit more items in less space, while reducing the weight of the luggage itself. From smart suitcases to modular bags, the new trend in the industry is clear: people want to maximize their space and pack the most amount of items while avoiding extra baggage fees.

Instead of splurging on expensive and cutting edge suitcases there is an alternative way to organise the packing process. In Dubai, a tech startup is addressing the problem through a simple app feature. This helps travellers optimize the space in their luggage while being extremely mindful of keeping clothes in perfect condition.

The UAE’s first app-based laundry service – Washmen – streamlined a way to optimise the space in suitcases while keeping clothes perfectly ironed. Upon placing an order, the user has the option of selecting ‘Fold All’ in their ‘laundry preferences’. This feature has proven to be extremely useful to time-conscious travellers, as all their clothes are returned in a way that is easy to stack which saves a significant amount of space, making the process of both packing and unpacking easier.

But what about all the laundry that travellers amass during their trip?

Washmen offers a solution – travellers can use the ‘Wash Everything’ bag. A game-changer for laundry days, the bag allows for as much as 10 kg of clothing (equivalent to about 2 full laundry loads) to be washed and folded for only AED 49*. The bag can be brought along during their travel, so that upon returning, their laundry is all in one place and ready to be cleaned in just a few taps.

By offering 3 services, travellers can take advantage of Washmen’s 3 different colored bags and sort their clothes to be sent for the corresponding service: blue for ‘Wash Everything’, green for ‘Clean and Press’, and white for ‘Press Only’.

The Washmen app can be downloaded in the AppStore and Google Play store.
