Dubizzle sees surge in visitors, listings during Ramadan

Dubizzle said the most searched terms in the ‘items for sale’ section of the platform included TV, iPhone, iPhone X, PS4, and laptop

Dubizzle saw a 60 percent increase in new listings this year compared to the first 10 days of Ramadan in 2017 and a 173 percent increase in messages exchanges through its instant chat feature, according to newly released statistics.

According to the statistics, there were 330,000 new listings posted during the time period, with 1.5 million messages exchanged, compared to 555,000 in 2017.

Overall, the dubizzle platform recorded 5.5 million visits during the first ten days of Ramadan, an average of 550,000 per day. Visitor traffic was found to peak between 12 and 2pm and then again between 5 and 6pm, compared to 1 to 2pm throughout the rest of the year.

The lowest activity was recorded around Iftar time at approximately 7 PM, then rose again during the evening hours.

Additionally, dubizzle said the most searched terms in the ‘Items for Sale’ section of the platform included TV, iPhone, iPhone X, PS4, and laptop, as well as sofa, fridge and washing machine, demonstrating a combination of important necessities and leisure goods.

In dubizzle’s ‘Motors’ section, the most searched for terms included BMW, ‘urgent’, jeep, Corolla, Toyota, Mustang, Camry, Honda, Pajero and convertible, while in the ‘Property’ section, common searches included furnished, studio, room, maids room, balcony, bed space, partition, pool, chiller free and private pool.

“Ramadan is one of the most important periods of the year and this is reflected in user behaviour when it comes to buying and selling products online,” said dubizzle’s director of PR, communications and events, Abdallah Touqan.

“Insights from the dubizzle platform revealed a rise in user interaction during noon and right before iftar, demonstrating users’ desire to spend time with their families when breaking their fast.

“With a 17 percent increase in user engagement across all Ramadan-specific advertising campaigns during the first 10 days of the holy month, our data shows that Ramadan is a peak time for dubizzle users,” he added
