Aldar Properties has launched a net zero plan with a commitment to becoming an emission-free business, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative.
The plan includes a detailed roadmap to achieve net zero in three scope emissions by 2050.
By 2030, Aldar intends to be net zero in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions with a 45 percent reduction in the intensity of Scope 3 emissions.
The plan details how the business plans to achieve this target in its direct emissions and embodied carbon of all developments and projects, as well as emissions associated with the supply chain and tenants.
The launch of this plan positions Aldar as the leader on the path of global transition to net zero and is highlighting its commitment to help control the effects of climate change.

“As one of the UAE’s largest real estate developers and managers, and with a growing presence across the wider Middle East, Aldar is committed to not only supporting the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative but also leading climate action in our industry and region. Our Net Zero Plan will drive deep and rapid change across all our lines of business and throughout our supply chain,” said Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Aldar Properties.
“It will transform our approach to design, supply chain management, construction, operations, and asset management. Our plan is comprehensive, ambitious, and based on science – matching leading global real estate industry benchmarks and setting a new standard for the region in its depth and detail,” he added.
Here are the three scopes of the plan and what they mean:
- Scope 1 – Direct emissions from Aldar’s operations including on-site fuel combustion and fuitive refrigerant gases.
- Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from purchased energy, cooling and chilled water.
- Scope 3 – Other emissions associated with Aldar’s supply chain including procurement, construction and tenant emissions.
In order for the plan to fully succeed, Aldar will require partnerships and engagements, the company will work extensively with suppliers to decarbonise materials and operational emissions while working with commercial tenants and owner associations to drive sustainable asset operation. Aldar will also work with utility providers and government entities.
Aldar has identified eight decarbonisation focus areas:
- Low carbon design
- Low carbon supply chain
- Green construction
- Clean Energy
- Resource efficiency and management
- Tenant initiatives
- Circular economy
- Sustainable acquisitions
