AI geospatial company Bayanat has signed a memorandum of understanding with real estate developer IMKAN Properties to develop a smart transportation system on SHA Island Emirates at AlJurf.
Located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the island aims for high autonomy with minimal manned vehicles.
IMKAN Properties will construct the required infrastructure while Bayanat provides digital infrastructure like maps and positioning for autonomous vehicles and unmanned systems.
IMKAN Properties-Bayanat collaboration
Bayanat’s digital twin technology will create a virtual replica of the island. This allows real-time monitoring and management of autonomous transport to ensure seamless and efficient operations.
The digital twin facilitates predictive maintenance, optimised traffic flows and enhanced safety for autonomous vehicles.
Abdulla Al Shamsi, Chief Operating Officer at Bayanat, said: “Bayanat has long been a pioneer of autonomous driving and unmanned systems in the Middle East, with a proven track record of technological capability and know-how including autonomous solutions, cloud infrastructure, digital twins, charging infrastructure, transportation super apps, and testing and simulation.
“We are excited about this joint project with IMKAN Properties, which will combine our expertise to create a unique concept globally – a healthy-living island featuring autonomous vehicles. We’re confident that this partnership will revolutionise the way we live, work and thrive in our communities.”
The island aims to position itself as a leading wellness tourism destination.
“Our commitment to sustainable development aligns seamlessly with IMKAN Properties’ strategy of crafting destinations that prioritise environmental stewardship and holistic well-being. Together, we are poised to transform this island into a symbol of sustainable living, where cutting-edge technology and eco-conscious design converge to create a thriving community for generations to come,” Suwaidan AlDhaheri, CEO at IMKAN Properties added.
Both companies will also collaborate on sustainability, data privacy, and infrastructure like charging stations to support autonomous vehicle operations.
This supports the island’s priority of providing high well-being and tranquility for residents.
Bayanat has over 500,000 kilometres of experience from its autonomous ride-hailing pilot in Abu Dhabi. Its expertise will apply to developing the island’s transport network.
