UAE telecom company has dropped beIN channels from its home subscription service.
Telecom provider du informed customers via email that beIN services would no longer be available on home subscription packages and that a discount would be provided to cover the loss of service.
Enterprise customers were also informed of the removal of beIN channels from du subscriptions.
In an emailed statement, a beIN spokesperson said, “Discussions with du regarding the renewal and inclusion of beIN’s channels in its packages have been ongoing for many months. Should beIN not be available on du packages from 1 July, when the current agreement ends, beIN will continue to provide its valued and loyal UAE subscribers with the world’s very best premium sports and entertainment content.”
“UAE customers can still watch key sports events such as European football leagues, UEFA club and national team competitions, ATP/WTA tennis including Wimbledon, this summer’s The Ashes series between England and Australia, NBA and American sports, and much more through the beIN Satellite Network (visit bein.com and/or call: +974-400 90000) and TOD (visit tod.tv). du subscribers inquiring about possible cancelation and/or refunds, should contact du customer service on +971-43905555.”
du removes beIN channels
The channels will not be available from July 1 and customers will have lower bills due to the reduced service.
The popular sports channels have exclusive rights to broadcast major sporting events in the UAE, including English Premier League, Champions League, Spanish La Liga and NBA basketball.
The removal of the channels will come as a blow to sports fans in the UAE.
Earlier in the month Abu Dhabi-based telecom firm Etisalat also removed beIN sports channels for its subscribers.
A message sent to du subscribers, seen by Arabian Business, said: “We’d like to inform you that beIN services will no longer be part of your du Home Plan effective 1 July 2023 and a discount of AED184 will be applied on your plan monthly fee.
“Our primary goal is to provide you with the best services and offers available. Please be assured that we will update you in due course about some exciting new offers”.
Subscribers were provided the opportunity to change or cancel services without an early termination of contract charge.
With both du and Etisalat removing the sports channels from streaming services, sport fans in the UAE will face difficulty in watching premium content provided by the network.
An advisory note from du informed customers wanting to watch the now-removed channels would be required to purchase services directly from official beIN channels.
