The Bollywood icon Shah Ruhk Khan-starrer spy thriller ‘Pathaan’ is set to cross the $1.2 billion (₹10 billion) mark this week, trade analysts said.
On Monday, the movie’s production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) said that the SRK-starrer became the highest-grossing Hindi film (original language) in the history of cinema.
On Day 26, the movie ended its fourth Sunday with a box-office collection of ₹9.96 billion worldwide.
The overwhelming success of the film, trade analysts said, showed that SRK has single-handedly ended the dry spell for the Hindi film industry in recent years.
The movie was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. The overseas collection – which has a massive SRK following – so far is estimated to havr grossed over ₹3.75 billion.
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel is positive that ‘Pathaan’ will cross the ₹10 billion mark worldwide milestone this week – by Monday or Tuesday.
“(It will be) the first Bollywood film to breach this mark in an original language format,” he said.
Meanwhile, YRF, the production house, has extended the ‘’Pathaan’ party for a week, introducing #PathaanWeekdays, after the success of #PathaanDay on February 17.
The spy thriller marks King Khan’s return to the big screen after five-long years. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also features John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.
