Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Hindi spy thriller ‘Pathaan’ continues to create history, grossing over $24.5 million (₹2 billion) in two days.
The Bollywood movie became the highest-grossing Hindi film with a $13 million collection on Day 1 on Wednesday.
Production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) took to social media to share the recent collection reports.
‘Pathaan’ Bollywood’s biggest opener
“With a bumper first day, the movie became the biggest opening day in the history of Hindi cinema,” it said.
YRF said ‘Pathaan’ had set multiple new records, including the ‘widest Hindi release of all time in India’ and ‘highest grossing first day for a non-holiday release’.
Film trade analyst and movie critic Ramesh Bala said that ‘Pathaan’ scripted the biggest opening day for a Hindi film in overseas territories like North America, the UAE, the UK & Ireland, Australia, Germany, Sweden and Russia.
The various box office records of the SRK spectacle, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham include:
- Biggest Bollywood opener domestic (₹57 crore net)
- Biggest Bollywood opener overseas ($4.50 million)
- Biggest Bollywood opener worldwide ($13 million)
- Biggest opener for a non-holiday release in India
- Only Hindi film to hit $24.5 million (₹2 billion) mark in just two day worldwide
- Biggest Shah Rukh Khan opener (previous best Happy New Year at ₹44.97 crore)
Trade analysts said now, with a 5-day extended weekend and positive reviews, Pathaan is expected to hit $37 million (₹3 billion) worldwide which is unprecedented.
