Be prepared to pay more for your Netflix subscription.
According to a Wall Street Journal report on Tuesday, the popular streaming platform is planning to raise the price of its ad-free service within months of the Hollywood actors’ strike ending.
Subscribers in the UAE are currently paying in the region of AED29 to AED56 to watch Netflix.
It is not clear at the moment how much it will increase, but the WSJ report noted that the price rise is expected across global markets. It will likely begin with the United States and Canada.
A breakthrough is expected in the ongoing talks between actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents the studios, after last week’s resolution of Writers Guild of America’s strike.
The next meeting between the union and the studios is scheduled on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Warner Brothers Discovery raised its monthly price in the US for its ad-free version of Discovery+, raising it by $2 to $8.99.
It has kept the cost of its ad-supported platform unchanged at $4.99 a month.
