Dubai Bling cast told to ‘upgrade their lives’ by Netflix, contract reveals

The contract also confirmed cast members were paid only $2,500 per episode

Dubai Bling

The cast of Dubai Bling were picked to be involved in the show as they need to “upgrade their lives,” a contract seen by Arabian Business revealed.

“Dubai Bling focuses on the lives of a group of wealthy people that meet over one common purpose: Upgrade their lives,” the contract read.

The contract also said that Dubai “is a diamond,” that has created a shining image that is “smelling so good.”

“An image that became a magnet to everyone looking for success, stardom and happiness,” it read.

The contract also showed that cast members were paid just $2,500 per episode (AED 9,175) – confirming earlier Arabian Business reports. The contract confirmed that season two was underway, with a possible third to follow, while cast members would receive a 5 percent pay rise for each season.

In addition, the cast were also forced to waive their “moral rights” by the show’s production company Different Productions.

“Manager recognises and confirms that Talent recognises that DIFFERENT PRODUCTIONS has the unlimited right to edit, copy, alter, add to, take from, adapt or translate the Programme and, with regard to the Programme and the Programme, hereby Talent irrevocably waives the benefits of any provision of law known as “moral rights” or any similar laws of any jurisdiction,” according to the contract.

Moral rights typically refer to the rights that creators have to copyrighted work in civil law jurisdictions.

The show – which Netflix claims centres around the lives of ten Dubai-based “millionaires”, is currently filming its second season.

Dubai Bling has been mired in controversy over the past month, with news emerging that a cast member was fired.

Netflix has also launched an investigation into the source of the salary leaks, with one source at the company telling Arabian Business that they are “determined to find the mole” who leaked the information.

The public reveal of the cast members salary has caused huge embarrassment to members of the show who have been demanding considerably higher sums for public appearances.
