The cast of Dubai Bling could have over 9 million fake followers on Instagram, research from Modash.io, an influencer marketing platform, has showed.
Data on the influencer auditing platform suggests that the ten main cast members due to appear on Dubai Bling Season 2, which launches on December 13, could have amassed a combined to total of 9.1 million fake followers.
The platform does not suggest any of the cast members have deliberately paid to boost their followings or are necessarily even aware that a significant proportion could be fake.
The data from Modash claims that for the majority of the ten cast members, more than a third of their followers could be fake. Six of the ten main cast members have potential fake followings of over 40 percent, according to the Modash report.
Modash.io uses public data to analyse the engagement, average likes, and likely fake followers count of each influencer. The platform uses machine learning to gain more insight into influencers and their audiences, with the information vetted and verified by computer algorithms, Modash.io claims.
While the data outputted by Modash.io can give an indication of fake follower numbers, most Instagram accounts of sufficient size will see random bot activity on their profile, without paying for fake followers, as automated accounts can sometimes indiscriminately follow other accounts en masse.
