The Avengers: Endgame movie earned AED6 million ($1.63 million) at the UAE box office on Thursday and a further AED8 million on Friday, meaning it is “already guaranteed the biggest opening weekend” in the country, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios.
The Disney source told Arabian Business the movie had “a stupendous Wednesday opening” selling twice as many presales as the previous movie in the superhero franchise, Avengers: Infinity War, which was released last year.
The distributor was forecasting “a record breaking opening weekend with Endgame”, having earned AED6 million on Thursday and AED8 million on Friday.
With Saturday sales still to be added, the distributor is “already guaranteed the biggest opening weekend”, the source said.
Figures from Boxofficemojo.com reported that Avengers: Infinity War earned AED11,137,664 in its opening weekend when its opening in the UAE on May 10 last year.

The movie picks up after Avengers: Infinity War as the superheroes fight the evil villain Thanos.
The performance in the UAE is expected to be repeated across the globe this weekend.
“As we are looking at levels of pre-sales and grosses not seen before, we are cautiously projecting a three-day in the $300 (million) range,” a Walt Disney spokesperson told Reuters of the movie’s box office projections in the US and Canada.
The current opening weekend record in the US and Canada is held by Avengers: Infinity War with $258 million.
