The UAE’s Attorney General has ordered the arrest of a man who posted a video on social media showing him forcing a group of Asians to cheer for the UAE national football team ahead of their Asian Cup 2019 match with India.
The Office of the Attorney General said in a statement cited by state news agency WAM that the order was issued after taking all legal steps, given that such conduct is deemed illegal in the UAE and against the values of tolerance upheld by Emirati society.
The video is purported to show the man ordering a group of Asian people who he had locked in a cage to say that they support the UAE team in its match against India.
Khalfan Mubarak and Ali Mabkhout were on target for the UAE as the Asian Cup hosts beat India 2-0 on Thursday to close on a spot in the last 16.
The Emirates, who salvaged a 1-1 draw in their curtain-raiser against Bahrain after a controversial late penalty last weekend, went top of Group A on four points from two games.
