The BBC has reportedly pulled a two-part TV series in which Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain was to make a pilgrimage to the Saudi holy city of Makkah.
Called The Hajj, it was set to show the TV presenter as she left her home in the UK to join the millions of muslims who are currently making the annual journey to Saudi Arabia.
The BBC announced last year she would be fronting the documentary show, having previously completed the Hajj for the first time in 2013.
She said at the time: “The Hajj is one of the most intense and emotional experiences you can undertake and I’m delighted to be sharing my journey with BBC One viewers. I’m really looking forward to showing first-hand exactly what it is like to be there.”
But according to reports in the UK, the broadcaster has axed the show.
Top Hat Productions, the company which was tasked with making the show, confirmed to the Daily Mail that it had been pulled.
“Unfortunately, it’s not happening,” executive producer Marisa Verazzo was quoted as saying.
